| Sting concert in Latvia
The concert of the prominent British musician Sting will be held on June 16, 2001 in the recreation park "Nemo", Jurmala. The show is included in Sting’s "Brand New Tour", first leg of which took place in 2000 in USA, followed by European leg this year.
The approximate duration of the show will be 2 hours. Sting will play songs from his latest album "Brand New Day"(1999) as well as his greatest hits from the previous years. His backing band will consist of 7 musicians and the show will be provided by Sting’s own top professional road crew.
Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, March 27. 2000 tickets out of the first 6000 have already been booked by the sponsors of the event, but the rest 4000 will go on sale at price Ls 12. When those tickets will be sold out, 4000 more tickets will go on sale at price Ls 15. Finally, the last 2000 tickets, priced Ls 18, will be put on sale. The tickets will be distributed by SIA "Bilesu serviss"(for further inform. call 9238512). Box offices will be located in Riga (supermarket "Centrs", music stores "Randoms" and "M-Daile", Liepaja (music club "Pablo"), Valmiera (cinema "Gaisma") and Cesis (music club "Vidzemnieks").

Sting (Gordon Matthew Sumner) was born on October 2, 1951 in Wallsend, England. Before music became his full-time occupation, he spent several years working as a teacher. In 1977 singer and bass player Sting along with drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers formed "The Police". The band existed until 1984 and was one of the most influencial bands of the time. After "The Police" split up, Sting launched a highly successful solo career, consolidating his position in the elite of the best contemporary musicians and songwriters. He is also known as an actor, participating in more than 10 movies. He supports enviromental organization "Greanpeace" for many years and is especially active in protecting Brasilian rainforests. Sting is also a supporter of human rights organization "Amnesty International" and takes part in Tibetan freedom actions on regular basis. Sting is married to actress and film producer Trudie Styler, the family has 4 children.
Being remarcable musician, Sting is also a very intelligent and well educated person. He knows history of the Baltic states quite well and is looking forward to visit Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
